Light Brothers get renewable energy grant
Light Brothers have over 50 years of experience in the waste industry and have been at the forefront of innovation in the recycling industry. University of Brighton researchers have been awarded a grant by the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC). The researchers, from the School of Applied Sciences and the Centre for Earth Observation, will be exploring more efficient and less damaging ways to source vital rare earth elements.
New cement alternative offers hope for low carbon constructors
Civil engineers at our North hub, Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU) have developed a new type of cement which creates 80% fewer carbon emissions than concrete. This demonstrates how future buildings can be constructed with low carbon geopolymers in place of concrete.
University researcher wins bronze at STEM for BRITAIN competition
University of Brighton researcher, Julia Meister, won the “Bronze Sustainability award” out of over 150 finalists in the STEM for BRITAIN competition in the House of Commons. Julia has been working with the NHS and international healthcare providers to develop a new carbon emissions framework for hospital equipment.
