Materialise Interiors
Chloe Bullock is a Brighton-based interior designer who set up Materialise Interiors in 2005, designing spaces for both commercial and residential projects.
Before setting up her own company, Chloe was inspired by Anita Roddick, founder of The Body Shop, and her focus on ethical, animal free business. Chloe went on to work for the Body Shop for 10 years, as a Technical Store Designer. She brings these principles to her interior design practice and specialises in cruelty free and environmentally-friendly interiors.
Measuring carbon emissions
Materialise Interiors measures the impact of the projects they do, including working out the carbon footprint. Chloe found measuring scope 1 and 2 carbon emissions – those directly generated by each project – manageable. But scope 3 – the impact associated with everything else, such as materials she uses and the rest of her supply chain – much harder to track.
Discovering Net Zero 360
As a Clean Growth UK member, Chloe was introduced to our Net Zero 360 workshop, which covers how to measure a full carbon footprint (including scope 3) and access to our carbon calculator. She said:
“I was lacking clarity on which way to go and not doing anything made me feel anxious. I felt I could confidently pick this up and it’s been a real revelation to have this. I have formulated a carbon reduction plan and it’s lovely to have that tackled.”
Meeting other like-minded businesses
“I found the workshop to be a great way to get together with like-minded businesses who are local to the area. I’ve been encouraging others to attend the workshop!”
Chloe has a book, Sustainable Interior Design being published by RIBA on May 1st. It’s been written to help designers and their clients find an approach that fits their values and ethics, giving guidance on the benefits of designing sustainably and regeneratively.
